A goal in either half from former AC Milan forward Maurizio Ganz and a rare own goal from Brescia's leading striker Dario Hubner gave Atalanta an empahtic win wich lifts them back into fifth place in Serie A. The match was played on neutral territory in Reggio Emilia due to violence at Brescia's last home match.

Fiorentina drew their league-high 11th match of the season. But it was Bologna who opened the scoring after 13 minutes as Giacomo Cipriani headed home a cross from Brazilian Lima. Yugoslav international Predrag Mijatovic then came off the bench to equalise in the 54th minute as he knocked home a rebound from close range.

The Juventus five-game winning streak ended as Pavel Nedved and Hernan Crespo scored twice each to give Lazio victory. Nedved opened the scoring in the 23rd minute and Crespo increased the lead one minute after the break. Juventus were down to 10 men after 58th minutes when Edgar Davids was sent off. Alessandro Del Piero managed to pull one back for Juventus one minute later with a brilliant curling kick from just inside the box. Nedved added his second in the 65th minute before Crespo secured Lazio's victory with his 16th strike of the season nine minutes from time. [Full match report]

Alvaro Recoba scored twice to give Inter Milan their fourth away win of the season. The Uruguayan international opened the scoring in the 28th minute as he beat the off-side trap, dribbled past Lecce goalkeeper Antonio Chimenti and deposited the ball into an unguarded net. Lecce's Luigi Piangerelli equalised two minutes after the break, volleying home a blast from well inside the box. Recoba saved his heroics for last as he struck a free-kick in the 59th minute that caught Chimenti napping. With the win, Inter Milan moved fifth.

AC Milan won their first league match under new manager Cesare Maldini. Defender Francesco Coco opened the scoring after eight minutes, heading home a free-kick from Demetrio Albertini. Andriy Shevchenko scored twice to increase his league-leading total to 17 for the season and Serginho added another to cap off a fine performance. Bari stayed bottom after their 15th defeat in 23 games.

Leaders AS Roma saw their seven-game winning run end at lowly Reggina. Both sides went close several times. Roma remained top, seven points in front of second-placed Juventus and nine ahead of Lazio. Reggina stayed second from bottom.

Udinese lost their fourth consecutive match. Marco Di Vaio scored his fifth goal in two matches as he put Parma in the lead with a volley after 12 minutes. Italy midfielder Stefano Fiore equalised from the penalty spot in the 56th minute to provide temporary relief for Udinese manager Luigi Di Canio. Ex-Udinese striker Marcio Amoroso put Parma back in front three minutes later with a penalty of his own and added an insurance goal nine minutes from time.
