Udinese 0 - 2 Juventus
Zambrotta 38', Inzaghi 60'
Sunday 4 Mar 2001
The win in Udine was less difficult than expected for Juve, who today wore the blue kit and had black armbands in memory of Turins deputy mayor, Domenico Carpanini. The players who decided the outcome of todays match were Zambrotta and Inzaghi, also Birindelli and Zidane came close to goal in the first and second half respectively. Both teams had a player sent off; Del Piero and Alberto.
Juventus demonstrated its superiority from the very first minute of play and had five scoring chances in only half an hour of play.
In the 9th minute, on a corner by Del Piero, Birindelli tried to header in but the ball bounced off the crossbar. This was followed by a great solo performance by Zambrotta two minutes later. The Bianconero midfielder got past the defence, but his shot sailed above the goal. Almost immediately afterwards it was Juve who once again made themselves dangerous, with Del Piero who received a long pass from Inzaghi and shot just wide of the post.
On the 18th minute Del Piero served a nice ball to Zidane, who was closed in by three opponents and could not get a clear shot. Three minutes later Inzaghi came much closer and on the volley, sped the ball at the goal, but Turci blocked well.
In the first half hour Udinese put Juve in difficulty in midfield only and along the wings where Alberto proved to be slippery character for both Pessotto and Davids. On the 26th minute Fiore shot from a distance but the ball went high. Only in the last 15 minutes did Udinese manage to make themselves more dangerous.
Fiore in the 35th minute shot from a penalty once again but the shot was stopped by Van der Sar. Two minutes later Juventus deservedly went to goal on a penalty: Del Pieros shot was knocked back by the keeper, and Zambrotta who was quick to find himself in the right place, put the ball in with a little help from Sottil who deviates. The first half cames to an end with Juve in the lead (1-0).
Udinese returned to the pitch and immediately tried to create opportunities in the Bianconero area, but Juves defence behaved well under pressure and managed to thwart their opponents attempt on goal.
While the crowd were riled up over Albertos fall in the area, attributing it to a foul by Pessotto (the ref saw things differently), Del Piero crossed for Inzaghi on the 15th minute, who consolidated the Bianconeris lead by heading the ball in (2-0).
The following quarter of an hour was uneventful, but then on the 32nd minute Inzaghi attempted a cross for Del Piero whose lob was knocked into a corner. Two minutes later it was Zidanes turn to try for goal, but his shot ricocheted off the post.
At just ten minutes from the end of the match the Bianconeri were reduced to 10 players after Del Piero received his second warning. Only 3 minutes later Alberto was sent off for the same reason. Paramatti relieved Birindelli, Conte came in for Zidane and Trezeguet substituted Inzaghi.
The game ended 2-0, making it four wins in a row for Juventus.
