Juventus won their fifth away match of the year. In-form Alessandro Del Piero scored his fourth of the season with a fine chip over Bari goalkeeper Jean-Francois Gillet in the 81st minute. Brazilian midfielder Matuzalem scored his first Serie A goal with a bullet of a shot from outside the area in the 54th minute but was then immediately sent off for celebrating by taking off his shirt. Matuzalem had been booked earlier in the match and, under a controversial rule introduced this season, shirt removal is a bookable offence in Italy. Napoli held on with 10 men for a deserved victory against a lacklustre Inter side who are now only five points clear of the relegation zone.

Brescia's five-match unbeaten ended. African footballer of the year Patrick Mboma slid home a Marco Di Vaio cross in the 54th minute to give Parma the lead. Sergio Conceicao finished off a nice Parma play with a strike of his own in the 66th minute before seldom-used Brazilian defender Junior rounded out the scoring 10 minutes from time. Parma moved fifth while Brescia remained sixth from bottom.

Lazio achieved a club record fifth consecutive away win. Diego Simeone's goal two minutes from time helped Lazio keep pace with leaders AS Roma and second-placed Juventus. Lazio remained unbeaten in the league under manager Dino Zoff, winning five and drawing one.

Fiorentina drew for the seventh time away this season. Reggina stayed second from bottom, three points ahead of Bari.

Defender Luigi Sala's injury time goal, his first for AC Milan, helped salvage a draw for struggling Alberto Zaccheroni's side. Andriy Shevchenko took advantage of poor Bologna defending to score two quick goals, giving AC Milan the lead at halftime. Bologna bounced back in the second half as Giacomo Ciprini, in his first Serie A start, scored two goals. Giuseppe Signori celebrated his 33rd birthday by putting the visitors ahead in the 81st minute. Shevchenko now has 15 goals this season, highest in Serie A.
