Leaders AS Roma won their seventh away match of the season, handing Bologna a second consecutive home defeat. Gabriel Batistuta opened the scoring with an 11th minute penalty, the Argentine's league-leading 14th goal of the season. Brazilian midfielder Emerson scored his first goal in Serie A for AS Roma with a splendid strike in the 34th minute. Defender Emanuele Brioschi headed home a Giuseppe Signori free kick in the 49th minute. Bologna played with 10 men after Jonatan Binotto was dismissed in the 22nd minute.

Brescia 3 - Udinese 1

Dario Hubner scored a hat-trick, giving the Brescia forward 13 goals on the season. Hubner converted a penalty in the 53rd minute and was on target again 15 minutes later from just outside the box. He completed his hat-trick with a breakaway goal in the 79th minute. Massimo Margiotta replied six minutes from time. It was Brescia's second home win of the season. Hubner has now scored 29 goals in 46 matches in Serie A.

Parma won their first league match under new manager Renzo Ulivieri. A bad clearance by the Fiorentina defence allowed Sergio Conceicao to give Parma the lead after six minutes. Fiorentina's Enrico Chiesa had a penalty saved by Parma's Luigi Buffon one minute later to preserve the win. Fiorentina lost their third consecutive league match while Parma notched their second away win.

Juventus 3 - Napoli 0

Juventus won their 10th match of the season. Darko Kovacevic opened the scoring with a fine header on a cross from Zinedine Zidane. Filippo Inzaghi netted his eighth goal of the season, knocking home a rebound from close range for Juve's second. Alessandro Del Piero returned to form by scoring five minutes from time. Perugia came from behind twice to draw their second away match of the season and moved sixth. After falling behind to a Max Tonetto strike in the 32nd minute, Perugia forward Zisis Vryzas levelled with his fifth goal of the season. Rodolfo Giorgetti put Lecce back in front with a breakaway goal midway through the second half before Luca Saudati equalised for the visitors with his sixth strike of the year.

Verona 3 - Bari 2

Adrian Mutu scored twice to help Verona to their fourth win of the season. Daniel Andersson gave Bari the lead with a 31st minute penalty. Mutu equalised with a nice turn in the box in the 54th minute. Mauro Camoranesi gave Verona the lead with a cut back from close range before Mutu added his second with a chip over Bari goalkeeper Jean-Francois Gillet. Bari's Saudi Arabian-born defender Hany Said scored three minutes from time. Bari stayed bottom after losing for the 12th time.

Vicenza's Ousmane Dabo scored his first goal in Serie A on a seventh minute free kick. Luca Toni added the second in the 72nd minute. AC Milan lost for the fourth time away while Vicenza won only their third home game.

Atalanta drew their third away match of the year, stopping Lazio's four-game win streak. Lazio remained third, eight points behind the leaders. Atalanta are now unbeaten in their last three league matches.

Christian Vieri rescued Inter Milan with a dubious 41st minute penalty. Reggina had taken the lead on a Davide Dionigi header in the 22nd minute and controlled much of the match. Reggina drew for only the second time this year and remained second from bottom. It was Inter's seventh draw.
