AS Roma extended their lead at the top of the league to eight points. Less than one minute into the match, forward Marco Delvecchio scored with a low angled left foot strike from inside the box. Midfielder Damiano Tommasi made it two with a blast of his own five minutes before halftime. Atalanta had several chances to cut the deficit including two goals disallowed for offside.

Bologna 1 - Brescia 0

A Tomas Locatelli breakaway goal in the 33rd minute gave Bologna their win. Home goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca helped preserve the victory with some fine saves after Brescia came close to equalising several times late in the match.

Lazio 1 - Napoli 2

In-form Napoli continued their unbeaten run with a surprising away win. Foward Nicola Amoruso put them in front after four minutes, dribbling past defender Sinisa Mihajlovic and sliding the ball past goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi, who was then sent off for handling outside the box. In the 36th minute unlucky Lazio defender Giuseppe Pancaro put the ball in the back of his own net with a remarkable volley. Six minutes from time Mihajlovic scored from the penalty spot for the final result.

Lecce 4 - Verona 2

Crisitano Lucarelli scored twice as Lecce came from behind. Emiliano Bonazzoli put the visitors in front midway through the first half with his sixth goal of the season. Lecce's seldom-used Argentine striker Aldo Osorio equalised early in the second half before Lucarelli scored twice in 10 minutes to put the home side ahead for good. Croatian Davor Vugrinec scored from the penalty spot for Lecce and Verona's Adailton added a spot kick of his own to round out the scoring.

AC Milan 2 - Inter Milan 2
AC Milan: Zvonimir Boban 65', Oliver Bierhoff 84'
Inter Milan: Hakan Sukur 11', Luigi Di Biagio 72'

Milan twice came from behind to salvage a point in a frenetic 247th Milan derby. Turkish striker Hakan Sukur put Inter ahead with a fine reflex volley but Croatian midfielder Zvonimir Boban pulled Milan level after an hour. Luigi Di Biagio restored Inter's lead with a quickly taken free kick but Oliver Bierhoff gave Milan a point with a late header.

Parma 0 - Reggina 2
Reggina: Davide Dionigi 20', 54'

Newly acquired forward Davide Dionigi scored twice to lift lowly Reggina to an unexpected away win. He put Reggina on top in the 20th minute with a diving header that left Parma goalkeeper Luigi Buffon standing still. Midway through the second half Dionigi connected on a corner kick from midfielder Francesco Cozza for the final result. Reggina move out of last place and are now third from bottom.

Perugia 3 - Udinese 1

Udinese: Andrea Sottil 34'

Perugia's third consecutive league victory. Luca Saudati opened the scoring with a nice header after 11 minutes. Udinese defender Andrea Sottil equalised in the 34th minute. One minute later Udinese were left with 10 men as defender Mohammed Gargo brought down forward Zizis Vryzas in the box. Marco Materazzi converted the spot kick to give the home side the lead. Giovanni Tedesco scored late in injury time to finish the scoring and send Udinese to their fifth defeat in their last six league matches.

Giacomo Dicara's goal in the 11th minute was enough to give Vicenza their win. An error by the Bari defence left an unmarked Dicara wide open to slide home the winner with a strike from in front of the goal. With the loss, Bari found themselves bottom with eight points from 13 matches.

Juventus 3 - Fiorentina 3

Fiorentina's counter attacks gave them a two-goal lead after 18 minutes with strikes from forwards Enrico Chiesa and Nuno Gomes. Juventus midfielder Antonio Conte pulled one back with a strike from inside the box midway through the first half. Italy international Filippo Inzaghi equalised from the penalty spot in the 49th minute and gave Juve the lead with a splendid volley from just inside the box eight minutes later.
