Bko: Good thing I've caught a cold. I was thinkin' an outing's a drag.
Bko: Why should someone my age have to go to a zoo?
Bko: Besides, the animals don't seem willing.
Bko: To begin with, that zoo doesn't have great animals, ya know...
Bko: Doves,
Bko: wolves,
Bko: deer,
Bko: ostriches,
Bko: giraffes...
Bko: They've got to be kiddin'!
Bko: Can't they show any stuff like pandas?
Ako: So, you wanted to go that badly.
This play exemplifies Juri perfectly.
Juri's desire for revolution is always described as the "power of miracles" - yet, she so
firmly denies that they exist. She duels Utena to PROVE that miracles don't exist.
...Funny, when she wants one so much. Juri didn't get a miracle, so she doesn't think
ANYBODY can get one. This is similar to the sour grapes situation of B-ko. B-ko can't
go to the zoo, so she pretends that she never wanted to go in the first place.
Making Juri's situation even more bitter is that the very person who told her to believe
in miracles is the one who took the chance for a miracle away from her.
One has to wonder about Juri's motivation in her first duel. I think it was less disproving
the power of miracles, and more just trying to take something away from Utena, who reminds
her so much of the "cruelly innocent" Shiori. In taking Anthy from Utena, Juri would get
her sideways revenge on Shiori.
However, it can be said that Utena also reminds Juri of herself when she was younger. This
is echoed in the movie, where Juri is the school's "Prince". Anthy's actions deliberatly
mirror those of Shiori, as well - Anthy presents Juri with an orange rose knowing full
well what Juri's reaction will be (which is another subtle hint that Anthy isn't the
innocent princess that she pretends to be).
