Checking my e-mail was exciting stuff a while back, as well as Angus, I found another name Look-in fans will know well - Sheridon Davies. He is the man who drew all the brilliant  illustrations that accompanied the 'On the ball' features.

Again in a similar vein to my request to Angus, I wrote and asked Sheridon for a short  biography.

Here's was the reply I received:

"In response to your recent email I am enclosing some background
information on myself. I trained in graphic design and illustration at
Liverpool College of Art and Aston College of Art, Birmingham, in the
1960's.

I produced illustrative work for national newspapers, book publishers and UK
comics before being asked by Look-in's editor Colin Shelbourn to draw an
'On the Ball' football strip for either the 1970 or 1974 World Cup. I
continued to draw the page on a weekly basis throughout the football season
for I think about seven years. As time progressed I was asked to produce
features on a whole range of other sports all under the 'On the Ball'
banner. Most years I also drew a double page feature for the Look-in
Christmas annual. The TV Times commissioned me to do a number of features
including a world cup supplement, which if my memory serves me correctly I
had to supply within 48 hours!

I also drew a step-by-step cookery strip which appeared from time to time
although not on a regular basis. Very early in my time with the publication
I was asked if I would draw a new feature which I think was called 'World at
War'. I declined because at the time I felt that my style didn't suit the
theme. Now I wish I'd have taken the plunge and done it!

As I lived outside London I used to enjoy the occasional trip down to
Tottenham Court Road when Colin Shelbourn, Brian Moore and myself
would get together for lunch. Quite often this would take place in the Thames TV
restaurant overlooking the River Thames. The restaurant was set out with a
number of fairly large tables to accommodate whoever was involved in making
a programme on that day, so a particular pleasure was to see which star or
personality you would be sharing a table with. I thoroughly enjoyed my years
with Look-in and look back on that time and the people I met on the
publication with great affection.

After Look-in and I went our separate ways I continued and still continue to
make my living in the world of advertising and graphics, spending far too
much of my time these days looking at a computer monitor, although recently
I have moved into the world of automotive art by uniting my love of painting
with my passion for classic and historic racing cars. You can't keep an old
artist down!
