FREE WITH LOOK-IN

As with any other comic, Look-in from time to time enticed new readers in with gifts, given free with the comic.  Sometimes they were memorable and even ended up being prized pieces of memorabilia for fans of the subject in question.  I thought it would be good to look back at some of those little tit-bits that Look-in threw us over the years......

The very first issue (9/1/71) contained a cut out Magpie studio, 'Magpie' was ITV's rival to 'Blue Peter', and was very much in a similar vein.  This gift enabled the owner to be 'Tony Bastable' for the day, the only drawback was that part of the studio was on the middle pages (Shown right) so you had to wreck your comic to make the studio!

A second section of the studio was given free with issue 2 (16/1/71).

I found this picture on eBay,  if anyone has the studio,  I would really like a scan of it, I could publish it onsite, and people could make it, and relive their childhood again!

In issue 3 (23/1/71) the Look-in 'Star wheel' was given away, a pretty useless contraption, which contained 12 picture clues to TV stars of the time, when you pointed an arrow to the clue, the star appeared in a window on the wheel.  On the left you can see Cheryl Burfield, and the wheel pointing to a picture of someone jumping through something.  (Cheryl played Liz in 'Timeslip, the picture was of someone leaping through the 'Time barrier'), you get the idea....

One of the coolest gifts look-in gave away, was the 'Kung Fu' pendant, from 18/5/74,  although made of crappy metal that bent, it still looked really good, and a skull and crossbones pendant was given away with the first new format issue (12/9/81), an icon of 'Antmania', to tie in with the success of Adam and the Ants.  (Both pendants are pictured left).

Stickers were always a popular gift and in, issue 6 (30/1/76), a Tomorrow People sticker (shown right), was given away, showing the 4th series cast.  The programme was at the height of it's success and this sticker I'm sure, is a much sought after item.  In the 22/10/77 issue there were two ABBA stickers, and ever current, at the height of their fame, a Smurf sticker appeared on 12/1/1980. (Both pictured below).
