| STAFFORD TUNES INTERVIEW 2003 ANDY GOLDMING SPEAKS TO ANDY BELL (from transcript) Andy Goldming-One of the best bits of Stafford tunes Cheshire. This is Single 1. Good afternoon, I`m Andy Goldming, that`s Oh Lamour 2003, a brand new breaking for Erasure. Greatest Hits is out now and Andy Bell is here. Hello, well now, how you`re doing? Andy Bell-Hello, I`m fine, thanks. AG-Fine, you`re talking in two quavers, you`re relaxed, you`re fine. AB-Yeah, got my cheesy crisps. AG-D`you know what? This is very strange for me, cause Erasure was the very first concert I ever went to. AB-You were the little blond boy, aren`t you? AG-Yes AB-In the front AG-Well, I`d know about four rows, ain`t it? I was. AB-No, four rows back, yeah, I remember AG-But you, you, you were on there for weeks and weeks on end at the Apollo in Manchester. AB-Yeah, probably 2 weeks, was it? I don, cant remember. AG-It seemed like more than that, since we`re getting adding and adding and it was like an entire season of Erasure. AB-Right, right, all that panto. AG-It was very well when I went too see it, it was quite panto-ish, cause, oh, eh, it was a big show, wasnt it? cause you got all the sets and the costumes and everything. AB-Yeah, we had loads and loads people there and I think we`re taking over the Britannia Hotel. And we told them to wash the car, and to wash the bathebrushs and everything, and put mini-bars in the rooms and we kind of took over the place for a while AG-And did they do, did they, do your demands? AB-Yeah, they did, yeah, they were very very accomodating, really nice. AG-Thats all AB-Very nice AG-That`s good. D`ya, d`ya ever like to do a tour like that again where you`e just in one place for quite a while and it`s a big big show? AB-Hm, well, I wouldn`t mind, but, but, hm, not for too long, though. Ma-ma-ma maybe for a week, yeah, that`s enought, yeah. AG-You`re not there in the half of the way, are you Andy? You`re getting... AB-No, not getting old, I` not getting old. But you kind of know, you know, in the hindside, that when you`re in one place for too long, you kind of burn yourself out, I think. AG-Won`t you still be as outrageous, or more outrageous? AB-As AG-Andy, it`s it that when you`ve been, have you kept in mind that you, tend to costumes that... AB-Well I`d quite like to do some bit of pole dancing, I want to do, you know AG-Yeah, very of the time Ab-Quite like to do that, hm, so well, I`d have to do a bit of practising, you know, it`s all about crotch and thrust, isn`t it? All that sort of stuff. AG-Yeah, of bend from the knees AB-So, yeah...a bit of that, I woulnd`t mind doing. I think Madonna`s done it, all that, ain`t she? AG-Yeah, w-w-with Britney and Christina. Ab-Yeah AG-Would you fancy any of them or who would you go for? AB-Who would I go for? Gareth Gates. Eminem or Gareth. AG-At the MTV, well, you should organise that AB-Yeah AG-Do you think it`s about the time that the Brit Awards, that, hm, you`d go maybe AB-I think so AG-The life-time achievement or something, will that make for you yet? AB-(gasp) A half life-time achievement. AG-Just a half AB-Yeah AG-So you`ve got the very best of Erasure,hm, which is out now AB-It`s the very best of, yet AG-Why you`ve decided that it was time? AB- Well, it`s kind of just to remind people that we`re still here and we`re still making music, really, and that we wrote A little respect and we wrote Oh L`amour AG- Do you know that people now, kids come up to and say "Hang on, you`ve done that Wheatus song!" AB-Yeah, they do, no, they do, we hear that, we`ve heard that like, hm. We`re playing, hm, they say, "Oh, why are they doing that Wheatus song?", the same with Oh L`amour. Well, so, you know, just say well, we were here first. My little, hm, nepphew, who`s now left school, but he used to go and take one of the Innocents album to school just to prove to people that we`d wrote A little respect before. AG-Single 1, this is Andy Goling and Bell from Erasure is in here. This song is into that record actually, if there was an Erasure tribute album, who do you want on it and what song would there be? cause you said Madonna just should be on there... AB-Hm, Madonna,, yeah, she can do Ship of fools. Whitney Houston, she could do Breath of life.And...Always, could be Aretha Franklin. Annie Lennox could do, hm, Always on my mind, ouch! AG-Would you give 50 Cent or Eminem a song? AB- I don't really know them... AG-It would have to be somebody you know? AB-No, no, it could be anybody. No I shouldn`t be so stick-in-the-mud, it can be anybody AG-Anybody who` quite willing and happy to, to get involved. AB-Yeah, yeah AG-So have you got quite a few showwbiz friends? AB-Hm-hm AG-Who they are? AB-No, none AG-Never ever got involved in all that, you know AB-Not at all, no. I see Marc Almond around, and hm, people. No, no, nobody... AG-So, you`re not into the whole showbiz thing then AB-Well, I do like going out and stuff, and you do some, you do see some people around, but. You say hello and How are you? and put your arms around them or buy them a drink and all that kind of stuff, but, not into the kind of, OK, you know, showing them round your house and all that kind of stuff, no. AG-So what`s on the DVD that you`ve got out at the moment? AB-All the videos we`ve ever done, on once CD, or one DVD, and on the other DVD, clips from all the live concerts we`ve ever done and including all the EPKs, which is quite boring, cause it`s just me and Vince talking. AG-So it`s a no-point, there`s no easter egg in it... AB-Yeah, there is, yeah, there`s a few little things that we`ve done AG-(whispering)Can you give some details about what`s on it?, what do you think? Yeah? AB-(in a sensual low voice) well, there`s one little bit with me on and Vince on a bullet train, Kentish band, and I`m scooping at a winkle with my cocktail stick, yeah. In a sushi, you know? what`s a shamey. AG-It`s a PG AB-Parental Guidance? No, no, no! AG-Cause the rate of the DVD, I thought an X rated. AB-No, no, not at all AG-Seemed me AB-They don`t rate them, though, do they? Video? Those music videos? AG-I don`t...it depends what you put on it, I suppose. AB-Oh, it`s not Pammy and Tummy anyway, no AG-(laughs). Andy, it` been great to talk to you AB-Than you AG-And, hm, it was great to see you live when I was 16 AB-Fantastic AG-And I look forward to see you live again AB-Gonna see us again? AG-When...are you out and about again soon? AB-We are out and about in summer 2004. The End |
