Born in New York on 1986, Utada Hikaru's parents are in the music business. Her father is a musical producer, and her mother is a well-known singer. Ever since she was a young girl, Hikki grew up in the recording studio surrounded by music. Seeing her mom singing and dad composing music, Hikki started writing lyrics for music at the age of 10. She released her 1st CD under the name "Cubic U". In 1998, Hikki went back to Japan and released "Automatic & Time will tell " on December of that year. At the time, she was only 15 years old, and her youth and popularity amazed Jpop lovers all over Japan. Her 2nd single "Addicted to you" will be released on Dec 16th. The music video for this song was filmed in Hong Kong with the help of more then 120 people. We asked Hikki why she chooses to make her MTV in Hong Kong.
Hikki: Because Americans don't know many Asians. They only know Jacky Chan. Since Jacky made several films in Hong Kong, I thought it'd be good idea to do the video in Hong Kong. And if you watch the video carefully, you might recognize some of the places because they are the same location where Jacky shot his movies.
Director of MTV: There is a special scene in the video where the 16 years old Hikki wearing a fishing hat and riding on a bicycle along 120 people. This is the most memorable scene on the entire MTV.

Growing up in America, Hikki has hard time learning Japanese.

Last time I asked her to write something down, and she just scrabble some English letters. It didn't know what she was doing at first, then I realized that she is writing in Japanese.
