Resolutions 2004

OK. The aim here is that since I usually reneg on my resolutions (if I can even be bothered to make them) I share them with the world that cares so that they can hold me accountable, and if I fail on these, collect huge amounts of cash/ice-cream from me at the end of the year.

This may also turn out to be the basis of a jounral type thing, which will give me something to do in the way of maintaining resolution 1.

So, here, the list of shame...

  1. Update Site

  2. Uninstall Freecell

  3. Play guitar like Carlos Santana

  4. Quit chewing gum

  5. Read Less

  6. Watch News

  7. Learn how to use semicolons.

Update Site

Given my previous track record (having owned this site for ... a very long time and having updated it a record number of TWO times), I'm hoping that this year, I'll update it say... four (4) times. That works, right? And seeing as I've just updated it, woo-hoo! That makes this resolution 25% done! Yeah!

Uninstall Freecell and Spider-Solitaire

Finally, I've agreed that it's time to act like an adult and put away kiddish games and move on to memory-consuming, processor-leeching, 3d, first person shooter games with intense plots and strategy!

Since I got the computer, when one of my pals walks in, I'm quick to defend myself saying :"It's not what it looks like! I needed something to do while waiting for Archicad/Corel/Flash/Excel (or any other processor sucking programs) to start."

OR: "I was waiting for Archicad to render a perspective... You know how long it takes!"

OR, I surreptitiously ALT+TAB so that a serious looking spreadsheet looms up infront of me.

I rationalise, and because they load so quickly, I justify it, saying, they are not really games, I'm just scratching the mouse itch is all. Then I quickly delete the statistics so that no one sees that I've played a total of 256 Spider Solitaire games (yes, and lost 178) which comes to... a LOT of time spent "not playing" Spider Solitaire games.

However, I admit it now. I'm a Freecell addict and I need help.

So, hopefully, by the end of this year I'll either have moved away from Spider, or at least be playing it without guilt.

Play Guitar Like Santana

Sky and I are heading towards the 3rd year of our relationship... and this year, I'm hoping to give her more of myself. I started teaching myself guitar like, 2 years ago, became pretty decent (aka, yeah, I play chords) then stagnated.

Towards the end of last year, I met Gilbert (1rst year Mech Eng student on our campus who I love with all of my heart) who plays guitar and bass with such flair and arrogance that I spent the rest of the year apolgising to Sky for having to bear with my miserable nature for so long.

He's a genius, he makes the guitar cry, weep, scream and dance. He does it all: rock, jazz, classical and combines both ordinary guitar playing and bass so at any one time, he sounds like he's playing two guitars and a drum. Did I say I love him? No, actually, I hate him.

Anyway, so duly chastisied, I took advantage of the teacher's strike and swallowed my pride (I guess now I can no longer call myself, with an air of smugness "Guitarist. Self-Taught. ") and took a lesson.

Wynton's School of Music, Church Building 2nd Floor, Moi Avenue. There's one Ken Kefa. Singularly most amazing person in the history of guitars. I love him with all of my heart. (Well, in this paragraph.) Brilliant dude, and thanks to him, I got an appreciation for classical guitar. Even though I still can't play like George Benson, or Lauryn Hill, I can hold a discussion on classical guitar with the best of them.

Oh, back to the resolution: This year, I'll learn how to play one Santana song. Or at the very least, the solo section in La Bamba. (Feel free to mail me the tab. I"ll even (wow) give you a mention in my site.)

Quit Chewing Gum

This is supposed to be a character building excercise. Because I don't have much character, I decided to start with quitting something that I can easily do without (i.e. Chewing gum) then maybe, I'll have enough confidence to tackle the stuff that really matters (e.g. quit those chocolate doughnuts they make at Baker's Pie, or Steer's Ice-Cream...)

I was going to go for "Quit Cigarettes", but since I don't indulge in those, that would be a kinda fake resolution, right?

I however will miss Sugarless Airwaves (in Grape or Lemon and Honey Flavour) very much.

... which means, Go out and mingle with real human beings.

Eeeiw!

Watch News

Not only am I totally uninformed on the state of things in this country (unfortunately, everytime I've watched NEWS, I get really bothered and irritated by the people I lined up to vote for two years ago.) but I figure this will at least give me something to do when I'm out with the aforementioned human beings I will have to mingle with.

Use Semicolons

I think they are pretty and I'd like to find out if they have any other functions apart from to wink at people when texting them ;+)

Really though, I learnt how to use them, I just want to actually make an effort to use them.
