Proper Slave Behavior

In the knowledge that a slave is to be pleasing to all free people, and in knowing that dina tends to use her feelings towards Master and the energy and love she has to fuel all she does. However, a slave is to always be pleasing. But in order to truly understand this, one must fully understand what a slave is, and how one feels. Only after that is done will one truly understand what is proper slave behavior in any situation.

How should a slave act? Well on Gor, a slave is an animal.

"Yes, my dear, you are legally an animal. In the eyes of Gorean law you are an animal. You have no name in your own right. You may be collared and leashed. You may be bought and sold, whipped, treated as the master pleases, disposed of as he sees fit. You have no rights whatsoever. Legally, you have no more status than a tarsk or a vulo. Legally, literally, you are an animal." pg. 316, Explorers of Gor.

A slave is an animal? Lets narrow that down to just one. It's best to think of a slave like a dog. "Man's best friend" go figure. Something that is taught obedience, and to follow instruction totally or face being punished. A dog also has it's own territory that it's Master/Owner provides.
In some ways a slave marks her territory just like a dog, it reminds her of her space, of whom she is, where she is permitted and to be grateful of being permitted into this space.

I then began my journey. The kissing of inanimate articles, such as a master's sandals, or the tiles on which he has walked, is used in teaching a girl respect and reverence. There was something of this involved in his command, the having to kiss the walls of his room, the furniture there, and such, but the form of the command was presumably motivated primarily by the consideration that compliance with it would guarantee a full and adequate negotiation of the room's interior perimeter.
I was then, after a time, again where I had been before on all fours, some ten feet from his chair, facing him. The leash, dangling from my collar, was now trailing behind me, between my legs.

Kajira pg. 338

How often do dogs steal their owner's slippers and stick long snouts deep within them? Owning a dog for many years dina has witnessed this first hand often by both Dogs she has owned.
It allows the pet to be close to the one it loves and protects and to keep its owners scent close by reassuringly. Dina knows being close to her Master is a very calming place to be.

Have you ever trespassed onto property that wasn't yours and were met by a guard dog? It's desperate attempts to scare off intruders in order to please it's Owner. Carefully protecting it's place and position in it's own family and relationship with it's Owner so that He won't have the dog replaced.

Belonging to a Master:
A Gorean girl, who has a first-rate man, and wishes to keep him, fights for him. There are generally other girls, collared girls, only to eager to take her place - Captive of Gor - pg 359

In protecting it's place, it's spot and relationship with the dogs Owner, in turn it provides companionship and company. As said before "Man's Best Friend", but unlike a dog or other animal a human, a slave, can be pleasing in ways most Men won't venture into.

Desires of Masters:
Few men long desire to subjugate a creature for whom they genuinely care, unless perhaps it be that they fear to lose her should she be free - Outlaw of Gor - pg 204

What better creature to offer such love and caring and be one that could receive such caring from a Man than a slave. Another human born in the natural order of things to be submissive in nature to the opposite sex. An advantage in ways, a disadvantage in others.

But what animal doesn't growl, snap, or grow angry and still have the sense to have some control? Honestly, all animals including humans become clouded in judgment when annoyed or becoming angry. So in some ways, if an animal, or slave has felt pain in the past, it will recall such, not wish to feel that uncomfortable feeling again, and respond in other manners so the Owner won't feel the need to use painful discipline.

A slave and pain
"I am even more susceptible to pain now," she said, "for now I have felt pain, and know what it is like, and now I have a slave girl's total vulnerability and helplessness, and know that anything can be done to me! Too, my entire body has become a thousand times more responsive and sensitive, a thousand times more meaningful and alive, since I have been locked in the collar. I assure you Master, I am a thousand times more susceptible to pain now than ever I was before."
Mercenaries of Gor - pg 34

What happens to a dog without a collar? If they haven't become wild and untamed, they are impounded until another collar is found for them, or if that can't be done, they are put to sleep.
Knowing what consequences can occur, one's body seems to react instinctively and become more aware to what is happening.

'What is it like, being owned, and having a Master,' I had later asked Susan, while being served breakfast, as though merely curious. 'Consider yourself as having a master, and being owned,' said Susan, 'that you are totally his, and that he may do with you, fully, whatever he wants.' I shuddered. 'It is like that,' she said, 'only it is real.' 'I see,' I had whispered.

When one is owned, one is aware, an animal or human learns what pleases and what displeases. This is done over time and through pain, and sometimes pleasure. Just like the training of a puppy, and how it learns that it will be called to it's owners side when wanted, sent away or put outside when not wanted, fed when the Owner pleases, and told to fetch again on order, when He wishes the dog to.

With all of this we come to the conclusion that a slave is identical to a dog. However this isn't totally accurate. A slave unlike a dog is human, with human feelings, communication, and other human feelings and abilities. So how does one make another slave or human feel and remember their place?

"I think that I am his love slave," she whispered. "It is too early for you to know something like that," I said. I did not know, of course, whether it was or not. Sometimes these things can be told at a glance. "I want him to whip me," she said. "Why?" I asked. "Because I love him," she said.
Page 288 Kajira of GOR

So at times a girl may wish, or react in a way almost begging for their Owner to punish them. But Why? Because they love Him so much in His dominance and control over them that they wish anything to remind them of that. To know He still holds that over them and they must obey. Yes it hurts, yes it isn't the most enjoyable experience for most but the after effect psychologically is a tremendous feeling of being totally dominated.

It drives the female desires and deep subconscious feelings to be loved and touched and cared for. Whether it's neglect, punishment,

Chaining under the moons:

A slave will sometimes be chained naked under the 3 moons of Gor. It gives her time to reflect on her actions, gives her time to think. Usually results in the girl to the 'dance of madness of her need'.
Then I began to dance the madness of my need, writhing beneath the moons of Gor, clutching at them, turning, stamping my feet, swirling, crying out.
And when I could dance no more I fell to the grass, writhing, tearing at it, whimpering. And as I gasped, and wept, …
Captive of Gor - pg 341

What does that result in? A girl totally, utterly in need and going insane with desires. There's nothing a girl can do but give in to primitive instincts like a wild animal. It's desire and yearnings for touch, love, and food.

So where does this all bring us?
A slave is an animal. An animal needs guidance, love, and in return gives that and more back. An animal, and a slave both have desires for companionship, and love, just like a Master wishes companionship but the difference being a slave under total control will return that ten fold.

A slaves place and behavior therefore, like a dog, should be absolute obedience at all times.

Lastly, to end this, Dina would like to add one last quote about how she feels about her Master.

"I am chained at Your feet Master."

I am chained at your feet:
A saying of a Gorean slave girl to express her feelings for her Master. The girl is normally kneeling at his feet as though chained, lifting her wrists to him as though they wore slave bracelets when she says this - Captive of Gor -pg 34.
