Eight new stars of the summer stage
By: Richard Ouzounian
JONATHAN GOAD
When this boy from Bowmanville burst on to Stratford's Tom Patterson stage as Hotspur in Henry IV last summer, the women in the audience were impressed with his good looks. I felt the jury was still out on his acting, but that was decided resoundingly in his favour by this season's Henry VI, as he deftly moved from the treacherous Suffolk to the charismatic Jack Cade.
Goad, 31, generates the same sense of danger that Colm Feore had at his age but offers a less patrician twist to the mix that stamps him as an original in his own right and someone well worth watching.
