155-43

Johann  Ignaz WIEDEMEYER, son of Anton Wilhelm  and Catharina Elisabetha (GUENTER) WIEDEMEYER, born Atteln, Westfalen, Prussia, 21 Feb. 1828, christened Sankt Achatius, Atteln, Westfalen, Prussia, 22 Feb. 1828. Johann  was named after his uncle Johann  Ignaz(Gunther?)Guenter.  He left his ancestral village seeking work west towards the new factories which were appearing at this time.   There are only two stories handed down and recorded by Raymond and Karen Wiedemeier of Porterfield 1993.

"Ignaz Wiedemeier(At the time of this writing no one knew his first name) had died while in Germany.  He had given some money to a friend to invest so that he could make enough money to send his family to the USA to live.  When he returned to his friend for the money he had invested for him he found out his friend had squandered it leaving Mr. Wiedemeier broke.  So he worked day and night trying to come up with enough money to send his family.  He had enough to send his oldest son Albert.  But Mr Wiedemeier worked hard trying to come up with the money and took sick and died of pneumoina.  Albert was 18 years old when he arrived by boat to America.  When Joseph arrive he was 17 years old."  Henry Miller is often hinted as the friend who lost the money.  However this is only a rumor.  This story may be a little exaggerated because Albert's father died in 1873 while Albert was a small child.  Albert's mother remarried Henry Miller and had a child in 1875.  Albert left for America 16 years after his half brother was born).

Second Story-"This is what I was told second.  The first I was told Mr. Wiedemeier was a mason brick layer and some wall fell and buried him alive and his body was never recovered."
