Private Aaron Maynard


Aaron Mainard (Maynard) was born on February 14, 1846 and died on August 27, 1918 -  both occurring in  Wayne County West Virginia.  Aaron was a soldier in the 45th Kentucky Mounted Infantry, Federal Army, until disabled by fever.  After that, he served some time in the State Guard.  His farm was in the Grant District.  His father was James Maynard, born on November 19, 1814 in Pike County Kentucky and was a lieutenant in the State Guards, Federal Army.  He was killed in a skirmish with Colonel Witcher's Confederate troops on Hezekiah Fork of Twelve Pole near the house then owned by John Jones.  Aaron's siblings were Emaline, Samuel, Nary Jane, Millie, Sarah, Jesse, Dicy, Catherine, Owen, and Moses.

Aaron married on October 7, 1866 to Polly Ann Ross, born on August 16, 1840 in Wayne County West Virginia.  Her mother was Delilah Jane Wagoner, and her father was Hugh Scott Ross, whose father was Samuel Ross. Aaron's children are: Emaline (married James Kirk), Daniel (born Aug. 4, 1871),** Samuel (born Aug. 17,
1873; died Dec. 10, 1937), Armilda (born May 23, 1875), and Kerrick (born Aug. 9, 1879).

**Samuel married Nancy Workman.  Children were C.A. (Cum), Catherine, Norman, Byrd Drake, Mollie, and Wetzel.    Samuel married Emazetta Nelson Workman. Children were Donna Mae (Moorehouse), Shirley (Smallwood/Tucker), Nettie  (Ferguson), Warren Harding, Cole, Domzel Joyce, and Carl.
