The Virus
Johnman 2003
Part 4
Licos was a fool. He wanted to destroy you. But all he had to do was find a way to control you. The stranger explained.

What do you want? Lydia growled.

We want you to work for us. And in exchange well hide you from the government. Well give you and your little boyfriend there a nice little cabin to live in. Someplace secluded. A place were you can live your lives out until we need you to do a job for us.

What this mysterious stranger was telling her sent chills down her spine. The thought of what these jobs could curtail was rather unpleasant. But one thing was for sure; she knew they wanted her to kill for them.

Just as her darkest nightmare was about to come true, an idea came to her. But she needed to meet the man in charge

Ok but I want to meet the guy in charge first. Lydia demanded.

Youre not exactly in the position to negotiate here. However Mr. Conner wants to meet you anyway, so its a deal. Oh by the way Ill be your contact from now on, my name is Theodore.

He rushed through the forest as Lydia closed in on his scent. She intentional smashed everything in sight in her pursuit. The more terrified he was the stronger the scent.

Without thinking, the man ran right into an open field. Lydia overtook him there and knocked him to the ground. The man began to scream in primal terror as she slowly lowered her paw onto his body. The feeling of his little body squirming under her pads was tempting but she only applied enough pressure to pin him down.

Please, dont kill me

Ill let you live if you do a job for me. If you refuse Ill grind you into mush.

Please. Ill do anything you want Anything!

Good. Lydia replied and moved her paw off of the terrified man.

Lydia I dont like this. You could be killed! Tom exclaimed.

You know its the only way. Lydia replied and kissed him on the cheek.

But you dont have to do this. Please lets just leave. Tom pleaded.

You know they would never stop looking for us. Besides I dont want to run anymore.

Alright, but Im going with you.

No, you know I have to go alone. Please just trust me.

As Theodore removed her blindfold, another dismal compound came into view. It didnt look that much different from the one she just escaped from. But the layout and uniforms were different.

Theodore opened her car door and helped her out. Follow me.

He, along with two armed guards, led her through a large building with reinforced walls. All of the reinforcing panels were clearly marked and visible. It was quite clear they were put there for her to see. Once they reached their destination Theodore turned around and pointed to the guards.

If you try to grow at any time they are instructed to shoot you. Plus this building has been reinforced to prevent you from getting away. So no tricks!

Lydia nodded and was lead into a large office. Behind a large fancy desk sat Mr. Conner who was relaxing in his overstuffed leather chair.

Although an aurora of pure evil seemed to almost fill the room, Conner did not seem that threaten. His thugs looked like they just come straight off the street but he looked like a buisnessman of some sort.

Once the door slammed shut Lydia knew it was time. She started to casually walk towards the desk and then swung around. Quickly she pulled Toms silenced pistol out of her jacket. The guards went for their holstered weapons but just weren't fast enough. The look on Theodores face as she put a bullet in his skull said it all. He never saw it coming.

What are you doing? Conner demanded.

Slowly, Lydia turned back around and produced a small metallic object from her other coat pocket. She threw it on his desk and pointed the smoking pistol at his face.

Im sure you recognize the tracking device. Thanks to Tom, I was able to track down one of the doctors who put it in. It didnt take much to convince him to remove it.

Wait We can make a deal I'm one of those who helped invent the virus... I can help cure you."

Lydia thought for a moment. His offer did sound appealing. Plus this guy did look like a geek, he probably was a doctor or scientist. But...

Sorry Doctor I can't afford to trust you. Besides if you invented the virus you deserve this anyway. Lydia replied and squeezed the trigger.

After Conner's head exploded, Lydia knew it was time to finish the job. Quickly she recovered the building keys from one of the dead guards and made her way out. Once back in the compound yard she took off her coat. A moment later a loud alarm went off and echoed throughout the yard. But it was way too late for them.

As Lydia watched the world around her get smaller and smaller, guards poured out into the yard. By the time they realized what was going on she was too large for their guns to do any harm.

In one last fit of passionate rage, Lydia systematically worked her way through the compound. She killed every single living thing and destroyed every building. Unlike any of her other rampages, no one survived this one. Those who hid were hunted down by their scent. Those who tried to escape were stomped before they got past the fence. Once all movement had stopped, she trampled every building and body again just to make sure nothing survived.

As she stood tall and surveyed her work, Lydia smiled. Not because of the adrenaline rush, or the warm blood that now covered her paws and legs or any other physical pleasures this experience gave her. What mattered was it was over. No one would ever use her to kill again.

After a refreshing shower, Lydia walked out into the living room. Tom was sitting on the far end of the couch watching the news.

Did they mention of the compound? Lydia asked.

No. But Im not surprised. Even if anyone found it the government would have covered it up.

Lydia sat down at the other end of the couch. Tom reached over and lifted her paws onto his lap. As he began to massage them she closed her eyes. She thought of how good it felt, especially after Then she pulled away.

That feels good but I dont deserve it. Not after what I did today. Lydia announced shamefully.

Tom scooted down to her end of the couch and gave her a hug. You did what you had to.

Did I? We could have just run

No! Dont start doubting yourself now. You were right, they would have never stopped chasing us. Tom replied reassuringly and stroke her fur.

He had a way of making her feel better. His voice could often soothe her just as much as a paw rub. And that smile of his

Tom now that we are free, where do you want to go?

Perhaps north, to the great cities. Honestly I dont care, as long as it is with you. With that Tom lifted her up in his arms and carried her to the bedroom.

That night they sealed their love for each other. The next day they left their hideaway and headed north. Over the years the government made a few attempts to recapture them but never succeeded. It wasnt long before they gave up and left the couple to live their lives in peace.

But their children Oh sorry, thats another story for another day.
