JAMES HOMANN Classical Singer

James decided to pursue a career as an opera singer whilst in his final term in Year 12 at Joeys, where he first commenced singing lessons.

Studying at The Australian Institute of Music in Sydney, James has completed a Diploma in Music Theatre and at present is in the final stage of completing a Degree in Music, majoring in Classical Voice Performance studying under Petah Burns.

In 2002, his first year of competitions, he won the Bass-Baritone Award in the City of Sydney Opera Competition and was awarded Second Place in the Joan Sutherland Vocal Scholarship, a national competition for singers under 22 years of age. He recently made his operatic debut taking the Bass role of Baldasarre in Donizetti's grand opera, La Favorita, with the Rockdale Opera Company.

In 2003 he won the Savage Club Award and was selected as one of eight finalists from 126 entrants from all over Australia and New Zealand in the prestigious McDonalds Operatic Aria competition. As well he was a finalist for Opera and Arts Support Scholarship and has won many other smaller competitions..

He receives frequent invitations to perform for soirees, luncheons and dinners for fund raising and business functions, and has performed for the Joan Sutherland Society, the Savage Club, the Federated Music Clubs of Australia and the Ladies Committee of the Sydney Opera House Appeal as well as for dinners with the Chinese community.

His repertoire includes arias from operas in Italian, French and German, classical songs and songs from operetta and music theatre.
