JOHN HANRAHAN

John Hanrahan brings a wide range of media and business experience to his role as a producer and reporter for both broadcast and corporate productions.

Over more than 20 years, his work has included establishing and running investigative reporting teams for Australian and British newspapers, covering the European Community in Brussels and the film and television industries for the Los Angeles-based business daily The Hollywood Reporter as its Australian editor. In the late 1980s he worked for Sydney-based corporate public relations company Charlton Media on a range of accounts including Citibank, the Seven Network and Hanimex.

He then spent three years as managing director of the joint Australian-US television production company Taffner Ramsay Productions, during which time he created one of Australia's most successful programs of the past decade, Australia's Funniest Home Video Show, now in its 13th year. He also created the Ansett Entertainment Channel for the Ansett Airlines departure lounges and co-produced with the BBC the TV aquatic game show series Treasure Island. This was followed by a stint at ABC's TVTV as a reporter/producer and newsreader and then managing editor of Dynamic Small Business Magazine. From 1978 to 1989 he also covered the annual Cannes Film Festival and hosted the Seven Network's Midday Movie Show for five years in the early 1980s.

He has his own media and marketing company "New Look Marketing", specialising in media training, corporate videos, crisis management, marketing, corporate public affairs management and radio and TV advertising. He recently finished a producing and reporting tenure with Channel Nine's Small Business Show.

As a corporate MC, he has hosted the annual Australian Institute of Company Directors' three-day conference, including the Prime Minister's dinner at the conclusion of the conference. He has also been the MC at the Australasian Reporting Awards, the ATUG I.T. conference seminars at Darling Harbour, the Australian Institute of Marketing's annual conference and the Australian Rugby Union's Bledisloe Cup post-match presentations with the Governor General and Prime Minister of Australia.

His interests include movies (he was president of the Film Critic's Circle of Australia for three years and still does movie reviews for Radio 2UE's Sunday morning program). He is the "stadium voice" for the Super 12 rugby series at Sydney Football Stadium and at both Colonial Stadium in Melbourne and Homebush's Olympic Stadium for the Wallabies' international matches. Other interests include computers, business autobiographies and spending time with family.
