Getting to Know Jekyll Island

Jekyll Island is a State Park. This means the amenities and rules and regulations governing activity on the Island may be a little different than what you may have become used to in other places. Many of the services available for residents and visitors are provided by the state. The Georgia State Patrol, for example, is the policing agency. The Island has its own Fire Department, water and sewer system and trash collection. But other services, such as electricity, telephone and cable, are provided by private companies.

These pages attempt to enumerate some of the amenities and explain some of the rules and regulations that apply here. You can find here when trash is to be picked up on your street, or what to do if there is a medical emergency or water main break. You will also find rules regarding swimming, bicycling, outdoor burning, cutting trees and what you can and cannot build.on your property.
