 Why do you and I have different hair and eye colors? Why do I have mom's hair, and my sister has dad's? These questions led to the study of genetics on Earth. The study of dracogenetics is not currently possible on Pern; the technology is not available to make the field possible. Beyond that, we ourselves are limited. The concept of a triple helix is not one we have studied, making all theories about the genetics of the Pernese dragon just that: theory. Through television, movies, and so forth, we have gained an inderstanding of how life is formed: genetics. It is concrete and understandable (to a degree, anyway). Our genes determine whether we have blonde hair and blue eyes, or black hair and green eyes. The same goes for the dragons of Pern(c). This text attempts to describe and detail the genetic structure and system of Pern's dragons.  The pages of this section are best read in order, as they were written as an entire essay and make sense in the context of what is explained before. At the bottom of each page, there will be a backward link, a Dragonhealing Index page link, and a forward link. Please enjoy, and I hope you find these pages helpful.
