SAYS WHO? (Unsold pilot)

Tape date: May 28, 1971
Host: Geoff Edwards
Announcer: Chet Gould

GAME PLAY
Who is Peter Lawford speaking for? This team tries to guessTwo teams, made of two celebrities and one contestant each, faced off. The celebs were paired by gender. One celebrity on the first team was asked a personal question. They then locked in if they would be speaking for themselves or their celebrity teammate. After giving an answer, each teammate guessed what they locked in. If the celebrity was right, their team scored $50. If the contestant was right, they got $100. Each team played a question in this fashion. The second question had celebrities of one team try to speak for the other teams stars. Play continued alternating between teams and formats until one scored $300. That teams contestant went to the bonus game.

In the bonus game, Geoff gave a subject, and the reaction of one of their teams two celebrities. If the contestant correctly guessed which star gave the quote, they won $20. Each right answer after that doubled their pot. Five questions were asked. If they went five for five, they won a bonus prize. More games were played, with the contestants switching sides.

NOTES
The celebrities on this pilot were Bill Cullen, Peter Lawford, Anne Meara and Betsy Palmer.

MY THOUGHTS
Pretty harmless, and mightve worked as a weekly show in the same vain as Password in the 60s, what with the non-straddling low-stakes format and all. But you see sometimes the problems such as the anticlimactic bonus game where one miss means its all over. Easily could have sold, but it was pretty unspectacular.

JAY SAYS...
Cast - 1.5
Game - 1.5
Bells and Whistles - 0.5
Prize - 1.0
Tilt - 1.0

[ 05.5 ]

Geoff is decent, the set is garish, but the show was the celebrities and their interactions. Probably would have shown more with less creative and entertaining celebs.
