GAME PLAY
Which one do you want your team to describe? A team of five men faced five women. The challengers captain saw two subjects and chose one for their team to describe; the remaining word went to the other team. Each of his or her partners then wore earphones. The clock started at 40 seconds and he or she described the subject to the next person in line as quickly as possible. As soon as they guess the item, that person tapped the shoulder of the next in line and described to them. Play continued in this fashion until all 4 players had guessed it, or a key word was repeated in the clue giving. Teams earned 1 point per transaction. If they made it all the way down the line, they won a $500 bonus. In the second and third rounds, the team who was behind got to pick from two words. At the end of the third round, the team with the most points won the game. If there was a tie after three rounds, one word was shown to the team captains. The champs chose to play it or pass it. The team left describing it had to make it all the way down the line to win. If they failed, their opponents won. Teams only left the show after two losses.

$800. This is as far as they got this go roundNine pretty faces... In the Daily Double, nine future players received clues. Gene gave the team a new subject. They had 40 seconds to pass it to all nine people. One player was given the baton and started the round. If they conveyed the word to the first player, they got $100. Every transaction after that doubled the money. The top prize was $25,600. If the player with the baton ran out of ideas, they could pass it to a teammate. Any repetition of a keyword ended the round. At the end of play, the team could keep the money they made, or play a new subject to try to improve their total.

NOTES
This pilot was done by Reg Grundy productions. After "Party Line" went unsold, the concept was piloted again as Hot Streak in 1985 with Bruce Forsyth hosting. These pilots used money as a scoring device and had a new bonus round. When it came to air in 85, it was Bruce Forsyths Hot Streak. It lasted 13 weeks on ABC.

Jay Stewart was used to relay the repeated key words to Gene.

MY THOUGHTS
A fun pilot. Gene does a good job, hes in good spirits during the pilot. Everything else about this is loud the set, the players, the music and Jay Stewart.

JAY SAYS...
Cast 2.0
Game 1.0
Bells and Whistles 1.0
Prize 1.0
Tilt 2.0

[ 07.0 ]

Big problem with the format: theoretically the game could end in two rounds. If one team led 7 to 2 for example, the other team couldnt catch up. (This was fixed by the time it became Hot Streak) Also the bonus is near impossible to win, which loses points for the game grade and prize score. Its a pity it didnt sell with Gene as host.
