GAME PLAY
This couple touches their toes to answer questionsA contestant or contestants are brought out to play several games with Bob. An “outside event” is introduced, and if it occurs, the player loses all their money. One used in the pilot was a slot machine, where an audience member put nickels into a one-armed bandit and the player lost if they hit the jackpot. The contestant gets $100, and makes $1 for every second they stay in the game after the clock starts. Bob plays games with the player involving facts, such as running in place as long as things with wheels are named. As long as they’re right, they stay in the game. If they make a mistake, they must “pay the penalty.”

This player's penalty involves birthday cakesTo pay the penalty, the player performed a stunt mixed with random choice, with one of the options being a loser. For example, one contestant was put in a bathtub, and pick from four cords, trying to avoid the one that would dump water on them. If they lost in paying the penalty, they kept whatever they have up to that point. If they came out safe, the contestant was allowed to stop with what they had or play on.

New contestants were given the option of keeping the same outside event as the last player, or a choice of five. When they reached $500, another $500 was given to the players. When the time’s up bell rang at the end of the show, the player was given the option again to stop, or keep playing.

NOTES
The theme music on this pilot was a remixed version of “Treasure Hunt’s” 1981 closing music.

This pilot was based on a 50s show with a similar premise hosted by Jan Murray. A home game was also produced.

MY THOUGHTS
Well, I was entertained. It was silly enough to work, but probably not for very long. It had a microbudget and some odd things going on like the weird stunts and questionable outside events. Aside from that, Bob does a good job here, as he had been well trained in the Barris Model by 1981. Aesthetics are decent, too.
