Review: Dog Eat Dog

DOG EAT DOG
Broadcast history: NBC Primetime June 2002 -
Host: Brooke Burns

GAME PLAY
Six strangers spend a day at a training camp, testing physical and mental skill. Contestants are encouraged to gauge opinions on one another through this camp, as well as perhaps not reveal their true identity as to throw off the other players.

The game in the studio starts with Brooke showing part of a stunt, physical or mental, that one of the players will have to do. Each votes on whom they think can't do the stunt. Then, the player voted for most attempts to complete it. If they're succesful, they choose one person who voted for them and send them to the "dog pound." If they fail, he/she goes to the pound.

This process is repeated until two players remain. These two players face off in a head-to-head challenge. The loser goes to the dog pound, and the winner gets a shot at $25,000.

For the final round, a category is shown on the screen and the last man standing chooses one player from the dog pound to answer a question in that category. If they get it right, the dog pound gets a point. If they get it wrong, the last player left gets a point. The first to 3 points wins $25,000.

NOTES
"Dog Eat Dog" is based on a British show of the same name.

Brooke Burns is best known for her role on "Baywatch" but has also appeared in the movie "Shallow Hal."

Several things on the show are sponsored - the clock is brought to us by NetZero, and the big screen used for some games is the "Circuit City Big Screen." (Hey, they weasled their way on my page too! Argh!)

MY THOUGHTS
Decent entertainment, bad game. Brooke Burns reads, reads and reads. But then again, she isn't there to really "host" this thing is she? The whole game is out of the players hands. And sometimes the voting is unjustified - they'll just vote for the most annoying player.

JAY SAYS...
Cast - 0.5
Game - 1.0
Bells and Whistles - 1.5
Prize - 2.0
Tilt - 1.5

[ 06.5 ]

The bonus game really irks me. It's brainless. There should be an option to answer the question yourself. Some flaws were corrected in the second order of shows, such as editing down the voting and camp sessions. It helped somewhat, as did cutting down on Brooke's reading.
