Cop Out

COP OUT (Unsold pilot)

Tape date: February 12, 1972
Host: Geoff Edwards
Announcer: Johnny Jacobs

GAME PLAY
The contestantsShe was copping out! *snore*Two contestants competed. Eight celebrities in turn were asked a personal question. They give an answer, then locked in whether the answer was honest, or a cop out. Three celebrities gave their opinions, then the first contestant predicted what the celebrity locked in. If they were correct, they got control of the score. It started at $100 and went up $100 for each question. If they were wrong, the score went to the opponent. Control of each question alternated, and after eight questions, whoever had the money kept it.

NOTES
The celebrities on this pilot were Ann Elder, James Farantino, Michelle Lee, Bill Bixby, Lois Nettleton, Larry Hovis, Della Reese, and Richard Dawson.

This pilot taped at CBS Television Citys Studio 33, home of The Price is Right.

According to the book The Game Show King by Chuck Barris (which means take it or leave it) one of the pilots of this show was a disaster. Celebrities got mad over questions and answers, and the display for honest or cop out wouldnt work. After everyone left, Barris kicked the display and it finally lit up. He got a broken toe.

All the cues used on this show, including the main theme, were used all over other Barris shows including Treasure Hunt and Newlywed Game. All of them can also be found on the album Chuck Barris Presents TV Game Show Themes.

MY THOUGHTS
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Eek. This is such a dull pilot. Forgive the unsophisticated review, but its really bad. The game itself is poor, the celebrity interplay bad and the aesthetics cheap as well..

Geoff Edwards doesnt really have anything to do in this show, hence no score. Thank goodness it didnt sell..
