Gene Wood: "It's more than Password it's Password Plus!"
"Password Plus" debuted on NBC Daytime in 1979.
And your host, "Mr. Password" - Allen Ludden! Allen was the first host of this, the third incarnation of "Password". He hosted the previous two as well.
As with "Password" two teams, a celebrity and contestant compete.
In the first round the celebrity gives the clues. Only one-word clues are allowed. A maximum of three clues per team (later changed to two) is allowed. Guessing correctly means a shot at the puzzle.
Allen: "Now here's the plus."
The password then goes into the puzzle. The answer is a person, place or thing.
There are five words to a puzzle.
Guessing it correctly earns your team $100 in the first two puzzles, and $200 thereafter. Giving and receiving roles switch every round.
The first team to win $300 goes to "Alphabetics" for $5,000. The celebrity uses a series of one-word clues to convey ten words, arranged alphabetically.
Each illegal clue used deducts $1,000 from the jackpot. Getting all ten in less than a minute wins the money. If they fail, the player gets $100 a word.
