| Above is a model of what a Minuteman silo complex looked like underground. In the upper part of the picture you see a B-52 for scale. HUGE!! In the hangar, there are three different silos that simulate different parts of the real silo. The first picture below is looking up at the base of the missile. Picture 2 is the blast door and behind that was a huge round door that offered ladder access to the missile. For training purposes, a stairway was installed. And picture 3 is one of the silos that is currently being restored. You can get some scale from the seats at its base. |
