| The story begins long ago, well before Tim or Jane were even born. You see Tim's father, Joe Sweeney became good friends with Jane's grandparents, Andy and Elsie Herlyck and Jane's mother, Jane Hayes. Well, Jane's mother, Jane got married to Jane's father, Wayne Powell and they moved back to Indiana. Meanwhile, Tim's father, Joe got married to Tim's mother, Patricia Liptak and in July of 1973, Timothy Joseph Sweeney was born. Tim grew up in Pueblo, Colorado with his sister Catherine (Katie) who was a year and a half his elder. In November of 1978, Jane Michelle Powell was born to Jane and Wayne Powell in Beech Grove, Indiana. The following summer of 1979, Tim and Jane finally had their first meeting as the Sweeneys came out to Indiana to visit the Powells. Tim was just turning 6 years old, as Jane was only a little over 6 months old when they first met. Jane grew up in Mooresville, Indiana with her brother Kenneth who was three years her younger. Now we will jump ahead 14 years to November of 1993 when the Powells decided to make the journey of moving from their home in Mooresville, Indiana to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jane started going to school at Mitchell High School to finish out her freshman year. In the summer of 1994, the Powells bought a house in the Briargate area and Jane started the rest of her high school career at Liberty High School. Over the next three years, Jane and Tim saw each other at various times but they are both very shy and didn't talk to much to each other. In the spring of 1997, Tim graduated from the University of Southern Colorado and while at the graduation party, they started to see each other in a different light. Later that spring, Jane graduated from Liberty High School and they began to interact even more. At the graduation party, Tim and his family stayed late and Tim and Jane began to start talking. Tim helped Jane study for her cashier test at Safeway where he gave her ingenious tips on how to remember some of the produce codes. In September of that same year, Tim received an offer from Lockheed Martin as a Software Engineer in Colorado Springs. Tim moved to Colorado Springs and moved into an apartment only a couple of miles away from the Powells. Since Tim didn't know anyone else in town, he was over at the Powell's house more than he was at his own apartment. Jane was currently working at Safeway and was dating some loser with a very familiar name that she worked with. Tim and Jane talked all the time and would sometimes talk on the phone until the early morning. Tim was trying to win Jane's heart but it would be an uphill battle. Finally, Jane broke up with the loser and Tim saw his chance, and on June 7, 1999, they were officially a couple. However, they did not see the tragedy that was about to test their relationship and their newfound love for each other. |
