590TH. ARMY POSTAL UNIT

Every serviceman who's away from home lives for the sound of the words "Mail Call!"

Handling the duties of the postal service at King's Cliffe were the 590th. Army Postal Unit. The Unit arrived at King's Cliffe in January, 1944 and quickly set up a complete post office which remained in service until July, 1945.

In one year the Unit handled over 40,000 sacks of mail without without a single instance of delay. Each day two trips were made to the railhead aprox. 12 miles away, no matter the weather conditions to load and unload such mail.
