Mary Virginia "Mamie" Ansley
Hi Jack, I heard you had a fire and lost a lot of records. I just heard
from Lee Jacobson, and he forwarded the missive he had send to you. I
gave you the Trippet records. They are growing, by leaps and bounds, but
I'll let Lee send you his stuff. I sent him the Trippet files, too.
They are up to 99 pages long, if you format them as a Gen. Report. Sigh,
and I've just barely scratched the surface, and there are still blanks
here and there. I got side-tracked into the Culbertsons and McGuires (a
Culbertson married a McGuire--and Pearl Culbertson married a Trippet) It
just gets so it goes around in circles. It seems that you and Lee might
be related a couple of ways!
Hope you are finding everyone you need, it does take a lot of work,
doesn't it! And, I now have a real job, so there goes most of my
time!!!!!
Keep up the good work!!!!

Charles Lee Ansley
I am Charles L. Ansley's great-grandson, and I stumbled upon your Root'sWeb database. In your notes you state that Charles Ansley was "reported to have owned Ansley Dept. Store in Macon GA. He also owned race horses and a plantation named Tallo Town. The Depression was not kind to Charles." You also report his place of birth as Randolph Riley Co.
The name of the county is simply Randolph. Chas. Ansley did own Ansley's, but it was in Americus (Sumter Co.) Georgia, not Macon. He was a prominent, wealthy, and well-respected leading citizen of Americus. His plantation was spelled Tallow Town, and he did own champion trotters and pacers. I will be happy to supply further information on my family, pictures, data, etc. if you are interested.
On my web site I have a section about Tallow Town you may find interesting.

Charles Speer Ansley
Tallow Town Farm and Its Environs
The photographs on the following pages were taken between 1913 and 1924 by Charles Speer Ansley (b. 1887) on and around his father's plantation. Tallow Town was the name of an early pioneer settlement in Sumter County approximately five miles south of Americus on the Lee Street Road. The roughly 2000 acre plantation incorporated what little remained of the earlier settlement as well as a portion of the land once a part of the Speer plantation, the original family seat. In addition to the views of Tallow Town, the sizable collection of negatives and prints produced by my great uncle contains other scenes of life in Americus and Sumter County during the first part of this century, from pictures of picnics, swimming holes, and parades to baptisms in Muckalee Creek.
