Xena fans are very generous individuals. In May of 1997, a group of Xena fans decided to track some charitable donations that fans had made, and the Sword and Staff was born. Since that time, they have raised over $350 000 in the name of just about anything Xena related, and donated the funds to charities that Lucy supports.
Lucy's Charity
Lucy has affiliated herself with the Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, and she now acts as the Starship Foundation's board trustee and ambassador. Lucy stated her reasons for helping this cause on the Starship website:
"The ongoing stories of violent child abuse have had me literally weeping into my morning paper. That was when I knew I had to help in any small way I could. I'm not an expert on child abuse.I'm certainly not the perfect parent. I;m just a mother and concerned New Zealander who wants to see an end to the grim stories we read so often."
