She was born on April 29,1974 by the name of anggun meaning "a grace created in a dream " in Jakarta.She was raised in the town yogjakarta famously know as the capital of the archipelago,the land of mystique.She a daughter of her javanese mum and Darto Sargo, a singer, tupe setter and an active producer in the show business in Indonesia.Her induction into the world of music began early in her life. As a baby, she was rocked to sleep listening to her mother crooning traditional folk songs. "There was always music around," she said. "All the time, there was music. It was a very creative atmosphere."

Her family influence her to start her early young age with the move of his father that took changes of his daughter career. Her influences were artistes like The Police, Bon Jovi, and Guns 'N Roses and she was already performing in public when she was 7. Her first album, a children's album, was recorded when

she was only 9 years old. At 12 years of age, she met producer Ian Antono,that produced her rock and roll album 'Dunia Aku Punya' and it was the beginning of the road to success for her. Together they produced six chart-topping and award-winning albums which, in the years from 1986-1993, established Anggun as a sensational rock singer. At 17, her third album won her Indonesia's 'Most Popular Artist Award 1990-91'. By the time she was 19, Anggun had established her own record company. Her fifth album in 1993 was a huge hit, remaining on the No.1 spot on the Indonesian charts for 4 weeks. It also forges a solid experiment of the scene during many rounds in the area which sometimes carry out it in stages of 80.000 places! At the time of a round in Borneo, it meets a young French engineer, Michel Georgea. The young woman decides to leave Indonesia to try her chance in Europe. In 94, the couple settles in London. But it is finally in Paris that they are fixed the following year. In France, Anggun is an unknown factor. Moreover it speaks hardly French, whom it starts to learn only towards 96 by taking courses with the Alliance Fran�aise. "I didn't speak a word of French when I got there, but it just felt right", she said.Friends gave her an address for songwriter/producer Erick Benzi (C�line Dion, Jean-Jacques Goldman, Johnny Hallyday) and Anggun simply knocked on his door one day and introduced herself. I said, 'I'm a singer. I want to make an album that has the sound of my country, an album that's different, that has my identity.'" Benzi was really impressed by her and it was another dream partnership for Anggun. Together they worked to produce another successful album, 'Snow On The Sahara', which has been described as a blend of traditional Indonesian and contemporary Euro-American music.
Snow on the Sahara is very rich.  There is no other way to describe it.  This is not an album of light-headed, pretty pop music.  The lyrics have meaning and the singer is almost crying the songs with an intense passion that seems to be missing from a lot of music today.  Her music is infused with Arabic and Asian influences (from the Indonesian culture) which make it very unusual but not overbearing.  Anggun's voice can best be described as smoky, deep and rich
But this album is in fact come out three times. Once in 97, " Anggun ", under the label Sony Japan with 19 songs including three in French. Then in France, " In the name of the moon " (Sony France) in 98 with 16 songs including 15 in French. Finally in 99, US Sony launches the album under the name of " Snow one the the Sahara " with only 11 titles, all in English Success comes from the title " snow to the Sahara " which finds itself classified in many charts European. In France, it is one of the tubes of the summer 97. The album, come out into 98, is quickly gold disc in France (100.000) before finally reaching the 150.000. Lastly, in Italy, it is double platinum (600.000 specimens). But it is also an immense success throughout the world. Left in 33 countries in all, it to reach the figure of a million sales in Indonesia and 100.000 in Malaysia
In the USA, the young woman also knows a single course since it is invited on the Festival Lilith Fair into 98, only composed female artists. She has the honors of the magazine Rolling Stones, Billboard and emissions of television such famous Rosie O' Donnell Show. With this occasion, Anggun prepares to give its first concerts in France at the beginning of 2001.
