detail - dough cast of the author's body

In the last works of Iskra Dimitrova we can feel an intention
for a change of relations between the author and her work; to be
precise, from a role of the subject who is initiated by the main
dynamic relationship which gives forms a meaning (starting of a
fire, dough making) to an active inclusion of herself into the form
and meaning of the main designed component. This moves takes
one to two, diametrically opposite directions: from one side to
a perfect material absence of the creator of the work ("Lapis", "Labyrinth") to the other one where one is taken to a more potential
or perfect self-inclusion in it ("Thalamos").

Installation view - sound, flour, cast, changing light

This dichotomy reunites through relations which are actualized
by the author: body=remains of the existence of a creator;
material absence=spiritual presence; absence of a
creator=liberation (self-existence) of work! In these intentions one can see a reflection of one of the basic paradigms of a creation: spiritual
and corporal self-investment and self-sacrifice in order for the work
to be actually created and brought to life.

Materials: dough cast of the authors' body, wool, flour, light mechanism, authors' voice
A cast of the authors' body is made by dough. It is lighten from the inside - lightning slowly from the darkness to the most intensive light and then extinguishing slowly afterwards, until darkness. The work is at another process, as well. The dough object is let to the natural processes of molding, crushing and crumbling, until it is metamorphosed into a woolen light.

"Mycena's crypts are an example of the general geography of the land of dead. There is a transit first which
leads down (dromos), a narrow aperture (stomion, 'mouth') and a high, wide,
grave room (thalamos, 'the bride room'). The grave room is a kind of womb into the earth,
where the dead person enters in order to wait for the rebirth".

The secret room in this project has a meaning of a place of initiation and metamorphosis.
