Seven Sayings From The Cross

Jesus was nailed by the Roman
soldiers to the wooden cross that He was carrying after all his clothes
were stripped.
Seven times in a row Jesus spoke the words while nailed to the cross.
His series of words shows the dignity of His divinity as the Word of
Life before His death. In fact Jesus could not have died of old age or
disease unless he was put to death. Why? Because He is the Life.
So He who knew no sin, God made Him sin in our place, that we might be
the
righteousness of God in Him (2Co 5:21).
First, forgiveness
> a petition to
the Father
Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are
doing." And they cast lots to divide His garments. (Lu 23:34)
Second, foretaste
> the word of
assurance to repentant criminal
One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, "Are you not
the Christ? Save yourself and us!" But the other rebuked him, saying,
Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? We
deserve to be punished, for we receive the due reward of our deeds, but
this man has done nothing wrong. " Then he said, "Jesus, remember me
when you come as King." Jesus
said to him, "Verily I say unto you, To day shall thou be with me in
paradise." (Lu 23: 39-43)
Third, family
> the word to His mother and
John the disciple
Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother and his mother's sister, Mary
the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw his
mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his
mother, Woman, behold
thy son! Then he said to the disciple, "Look at
your mother!" From that moment on, the disciple welcomed him into his
own house. (Joh 19: 25-27)
Note:
It seems that Jesus spoke rudely to
his mother with the words 'Woman'. Implicitly Mary (Maria) is not his
mother. Jesus just 'using' her womb as a transit entering the world. In
certain religions, Maria is adored by an idol of her statue and picture
of a mother
carrying her child.

Fourth, forsaken >
lamentation
to the member of the Godhead
At twelve o'clock, darkness covered the whole area and lasted until
three o'clock. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice,
saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? Which means, My God, my God, why
hast thou forsaken me? (Mar 15: 33-34)
About the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lama
sabachthani?" Meaning: My God, my God, why did you leave me? (Mt 27:46)
His cry as Godman fulfilled the prophecy of (Ps. 22: 1), reported by
Matthew
for the Jews and by Mark for the Gentiles. This illustrates His agony
being excommunicated by the two persons of the Divine Triunity
(Godhead). He suffered a second death a.k.a. eternal death when He was
separated from the Father and the Holy Ghost. Three kind of deaths

Fifth, famished
> to the Roman
soldiers
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that
the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. There was a
container full of sour wine. So they put a sponge on a hyssop and
showed it to Jesus' mouth. (John 19: 28-29)
Sixth, finished
> the
proclamation of the
past-present-future task of saving mankind is complete
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, "It is finished." Then
he bowed his head and gave up his life. (Joh 19:30)
Seventh, forever
> jubilant
outcry to the
Father
And Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Father, into thy hands I
commend my spirit. And when he had said this, he gave up his life. (Lu
23:46)
Conclusion
Seven times Jesus, the Savior of the world cried out from the cross to
show His perfection as the Word of Life, in death, and His life as a
man of blood and flesh. He suffered two deaths, first the eternal death
and
secondly the
physical death.
Question; why would He want to
be humiliated, tortured, treated cruelly without
mercy?
Answer; . . . So he, because of
the joy that awaited him, suffered on the cross, ignoring his shame,
and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Heb 12:2)
He
was
crucified without clothes. It is difficult for us in the age of
nudity and pornography to comprehend the great humiliation he suffered
by hanging naked on the cross. They had taken His garments by lot by
the Roman soldiers.
The first Adam as representative head of the human race, originally
created without sin, but sadly by his
sin stripped us naked (Rom5:12).
The last Adam, suffered the disgrace
of
nakedness, and because of his obedience enveloped us in the
righteousness of
God who believes in Him.
While Jesus bore all our sins and transgressions, He also absorbed all
our shame. He was not covered up to maintain His dignity while dying on
the tree; He was stripped and exposed, over the shame of the sin of
sexuality in
our place. He went through it all, was crucified naked, so that
believers
might be
clothed in the garments of the righteousness of Christ, and be able to
stand before God throughout all eternity.
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the
suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor, that he by the grace
of God should taste death for every man. (Heb 2:9)
In His human life, He had offered prayers and supplications with
weeping and groaning to Him, who was able to save Him from death, and
because of His piety He was heard. And though he were a Son, yet
learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; and having been
made perfect, he became the
author of eternal salvation unto all them
that obey him, (Heb 5:7-9)
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in
once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Heb 9:12
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life in
Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ro 6:23)
