The famous monument & statue of Daniel O'Connell (1775-1847) is located at the top of O'Connell Street, formerly Sackville Street. A politicial leader, Daniel O'Connell is known as "The Liberator", founder of the Catholic Association. He was elected to the British House of Commons in 1828 & campaigned for the repeal of laws repressing the native Irish Catholic population. The angels at the base represent the four provinces of Ireland.
