None of this is really valid any more, it was for an older idea of what would happen, but it still might be interesting. The Takai Sennyo have one principal religion, which centers around their mythic goddess Queen Lynette, who is said to be the ancestor of all Takai Sennyo and awaits them at death. They believe in many different worlds, in one of which was the ancient Takai Sennyo kingdom. It was in this kingdom that Queen Lynette lived until it was destroyed by vampires and she herself became one. She then traveled across many worlds in search of a new home. During her travels she was rescued by a spirit in wolf form, which traveled with her afterwards and thus it has become the patron of travelers. Some accounts say the wolf became human, others say it was the pet wolf of a vampire, or even the Queen herself. Regardless, because of this wolves are considered friends by the Takai Sennyo who tolerate their killing of livestock. This tolerance does not however extend to the killing of Takai Sennyo, wolves that do are considered to have become evil and renounced Queen Lynette, and are hunted when they appear. Other figures in their myths include so called "sea child" that was Queen Lynette's disciple, and is the patron of students and fishermen. A demon who was supposed to appear at times during the young Queen's travels, his exact role is highly debated. A girl or woman who's description ranges from a fellow wandering princess made a vampire, to the wife of the demon. And a strange blue cat that became the Queen's pet and has become a symbol of protection. At the end of her travels Lynette marries Hades Lord of the Dead who fathered her children Daysha: the first ruler of the Takai Sennyo, and her brother Andbry, who's fate is unknown. Like the kingdom, the Takai Sennyo religion is upheld by women of a certain family, who preform important church functions. Lesser functions are performed by those who have the priestess' blessing. Their chief religious symbol is known as the Ashkela, a hollow circle inside a semicircular line, with a cross extending downward. Others are the wolf usually seen with it's paw resting on a sphere sometimes accompanied by the vampire, the demon, and a long haired woman holding a sword with a cat at her feet representing Queen Lynette. Temples are dome shaped structures with more typical
adjoining structures for guests and members of the church who care for
the temple, they customarily have and Ashkela at their peak, and statues
at the four compass points. They are open to the public all times except
during certain closed ceremonies. In their center is often an altar
statue. The temples are maintained by priestesses and their disciples
who are paid by wealthy patrons. |
