Frank Zappa
            Frank Zappa - "QuAUDIOPHILIAc"  DVD-Audio  (Kazaamies = 5 of 5)

I'll stop just short of saying everyone should listen to this thing.  For now.

To be honest, I don't think I've ever listened to Zappa.  I'm not aware of any "hit" songs that I've maybe heard on the radio.  Perhaps there is?  I dunno.  I wouldn't recognize one.  Regardless, I've never owned a Zappa album until now.

I had earlier read about a new DVD-Audio release called "QuAUDIOPHILIAc" and my understanding was that it contained songs that Frank Zappa had worked on during the 70s, perhaps, with quad mixes already made.  Plus, maybe some other stuff from throughout the years?  I'm not entirely sure what it is/was.  Anyway...  Dweezil helped put it together and DTS Entertainment released it.  And then I saw it at Best Buy and figured, "What the heck!"  So I bought it.

Listening to this thing is amazing!  Wow.  I'm not really sure how to describe it, but it's good. To borrow someone else's words, it might be considered "modern rock / jazz / classical / fusion beauty".  Regardless, this 5.1 mix instantly grabbed me as being something special.  The recording qualtiy sounds both "raw" and "hi-fi" at the same time.  And the sense of space is overwhelmingly huge!  This album, in both its music and its surround mix, is experimental.  About the only thing that might be considered a downside is that typical song structure is often absent and these tracks are sometimes simply experiements in surround sound.

That said, I just think this release is oh so wonderful!  It makes for great demo material, if nothing else.
