Porcupine Tree - "Deadwing" DVD-Audio (Kazaamies = 4-1/2 of 5)
Initially, I was slightly disappointed with "Deadwing". It just didn't seem to measure up to the material and surround mix found on their earlier DVD-A release, "In Absentia". However, after a few more listens it began to grow on me. Elliot Scheiner is on board once again to create the surround mix. This time, however, he shares a co-credit with band member Steven Wilson---according to the on-screen notes. I thought this collaboration had resulted in a more straight-forward mix, but upon further inspection this isn't the case. Surrounds are still quite creative if you listen carefully. This is definitely one of the better DVD-Audio or SACD releases out there. "Deadwing" contains 4 bonus tracks. Three are exclusive to the DTS Entertainment release, whilst a fourth ("She's Moved On") is a hidden track that can be easily located by pressing the "UP" cursor button in the extras menu. All tracks are available in high-resolution (48 kHz / 24 Bit) DVD-Audio. |
