The former Jefferson Airplane guitarist treats us to a nice acoustic bluegrass album with "Blue Country Heart". Together with Bluegrass musicians, Jerry Douglas (dobro) and Bela Fleck (Banjo) among others, Jorma Kaukonen has given us a record that has a more traditional, laid-back sounding bluegrass than we typically get these days from many of the 'newgrass' bands. The surround mix on this single-layer SACD has a natural ambience which fills out the room nicely. Vocals and instrumentation emmanate from the front. A fine disc, indeed!
