George Harrison - "Live In Japan" SACD (Kazaamies = 3 of 5)
This hybrid 2-disc set typically runs about $25.00, but I luckily got the disc for $10.00. So I can't complain too much. Personally, I think the songs and performances from this former Beatle are excellent, which makes the album worth owning regardless of a surround mix. Sonically, it's a little weak in the bass and does suffer from having been recorded in what I suspect was a fairly large venue (or two). However, I still enjoy the ambience given by the surround mix. I know this recording isn't perfect, but at least I can listen to it---unlike, say, some other pop/rock live shows where the recording sounds like utter crap and both lyrics and instruments are practially unintelligible. I give "Live In Japan" a rating of 3 out of 5. Or maybe I could go a smidge higher? It's not great, but it's decent enough. |
