Elton John - "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" SACD (Kazaamies = 4-1/2 of 5)
The artwork for the album cover is quite disturbing given its abundance of freaky-looking mutant animals. Thankfully, we can take comfort in the fact that what's inside is much better. The overall recording quality has pretty decent sonics, thus, letting us enjoy the lively music without suffering through dull highs. The surround mix by Greg Penny makes ample and discrete use of the surround channels. Moreover, the vocals aren't too narrow or too wide. Everything is of high-quality all around. In fact, this album scores just short of a perfect score only because it lacks some of those amazing moments that can leave a guy speechless. This hybrid SACD contains the hit song, "Someone Saved My Life Tonight".
FWIW... I also have recently acquired the SACD versions of Elton John's "Honky Chateau" and "Tumbleweed Connection". Those two are both good, but probably not quite as good as "Captain Fantastic". I'll need to listen more to those two before posting any specifics about them. |
