Bon Jovi - "This Left Feels Right" SACD (Kazaamies = 3.75 of 5)
I'm thinking that if you go into this thing with fairly low expectations that you will come out fairly happy. Musically, this album contains new acoustical arrangements of popular Bon Jovi songs; and, for the most part, it seems to work. There is often a tendancy to slow down songs when playing quieter, acoustic music. "This Left Feels Right" has a couple examples of this where things get overly long and boring, but thankfully, most songs seem to have a fair amount of pep to them. Sonically, the recording is clean, but perhaps slightly overcompressed. I can still enjoy it, so long as I don't focus on it too much; but clearly there are other albums with better mastering and whatnot. The surround mix was done by Obie O'Brien (Slippery When Wet, Have a Nice Day) and I feel this album has, without a doubt, a better surround mix than the dualdisc of "Have a Nice Day". Moreover, it seems comparable to the the surround mix on "Slippery When Wet", though, some days I find I enjoy "This Left Feels Right" even slightly more. A couple of songs that I particularly enjoy---for both their acoustical arrangements and the surround mixes---are "Wanted Dead or Alive" and "Lay Your Hands on Me". |
