Sumas Band Blockade

Insurrectionary Anarchists

Members of the Sumas Indian Band of the Sto:lo Nation have been blockading Sumas Mountain Road to gravel and rock hauling dump trucks since last Monday, March 31 to protest the approval of a sixth quarry for a mine near the reserve. The Sumas reserve is located east of Abbotsford.

The band members are upset because of the lack of consultation by the government and the gravel company. Clarence Pennier of the Sto:lo Nation says that another reason for the action is the increase in the number of big trucks moving across the reserve.
