7 people violently arrested at Health Assistance Branch office occupation in Victoria
Thursday, March 13

Police used excessive force, breaking down doors, shooting out a window, and pepper spraying the four men and three women struggling to send their demands to the government - a demand for justice and compassion!

When police arrived at the Victoria Health Assistance Branch office, all seven occupiers were sitting in a circle with thier hands raised. The police however, took the opportunity to bludgen each of them with billy clubs anyway. Despite the fact that none of them resisted arrest, the police inflicted their captives with pepper spray, a tactic increasingly becoming a form of police torture.

Later while being held in jail, one of the woman occupiers (a serious diabetic) was denied her insulin though her lawyer was assured by police she would get it. After awhile, the woman began to go into shock. As a result of being denied her insulin by the police while in jail, she was later taken to hospital. All of this ironically occurring only two days before the International Day Against Police Brutality. Increasingly, the Victoria and Vancouver Police Department are gaining a reputation for their irrational aggressiveness and violence towards the poor, people of colour, and those who speak out for their rights - for justice.
