Aliens vs. Predator 2
Well, being a very big fan of the Aliens and Predator franchise, I might score this game higher than I probably should. But this game is mostly good, although very disappointing when you remember what the first game was like. Almost everything feels flawless graphically, even though the framerate sometimes slows down. Aliens vs. Predator 2 is a rare game that inspires somebody at least once.

The graphics are great. Look at the textures! They're mostly good considering they came from the Lithtech graphics engine. The framerate does occasionally slow down a bit here and there, but it can be easily overlooked. Plus, the aliens look a little...well, terrible. But these are rather dumb reasons to knock down the score significantly. I'm just mainly shocked at the sound effects. The sound effects come from the movies, and that's an added bonus. Don't you love hearing the Predator laugh his evil laugh as he shoots a spear through someone's head, pinning it to the wall? The sounds are flawless, even though the voice acting is, at times, a little over the top.

The controls feel right. These aren't quite as good as Half-Life's controls, but they're worthy enough to be right up there. And every little task's controls can be configured! You can even configure the Predator, the Alien, and the Marine's controls.

Speaking of the three characters, I forgot to mention one thing: You can play as each of them! There's 7 missions for the Predator, 7 missions for the Alien, and 7 missions for the Marine. Want some thrills and some REAL fun? Go for the Alien. Want some ultimate suspense and the scariest video game experiences ever? Go for the Marine! Want some excellent combat, but really boring and repetitive levels? Go for the Predator! However I recommend you do them all! And when you're done, you have Internet multiplayer, with lots of different modes of play! You'll never get sick of this game for years to come.

This game is really, really scary. Sure, the last game got a little creepy here and there, but I was really surprised with the survival-horror approach to the Marine missions. It's really freaky when you are in a dark corridor and your flashlight shines on some skinned, hanging bodies (courtesy of the Predator) and the music suddenly shifts into an intense orchestra.

I can't decide whether I like Alien missions or Marine missions better. Seriously, they're insanely great! The Alien gets the most unique and original missions, such as starting out as a facehugger in the first level, trying to find a host. Then, in the second level, after you've found an unfortunate victim, you actually play inside of the host (!), eating your way out of his stomach! It's so great, I think I'm going to cry.

Okay, now for the Predator. Sure, it's extremely fun to kill humans and stalk them in this game, and I love getting "trophies" (heads, basically), but let's face it: Being stuck in a game isn't that fun. All right, it's my biggest pet peeve in the video game world. And you will get stuck a lot. It's easier to get lost in this game than it is to die. That is, when you play as the Predator. And that's unfortunate. First of all, his combat is too easy! You get to heal whenever the heck you want thanks to the medicomp, and you no longer have to obtain field charges, because he carries them around with him! You never run out of power and you never run out of life! Not cool! But this can be overlooked because of his vision modes. Yes, the thermal heat seeking mode of vision is back, and it looks better than ever.

This game gets ugly after a while. You stop playing it only a week or two later. Multiplayer is starting to get very, very boring and repetitive. There aren't enough levels, and there is so much lag you'll think you're in 1999. The single-player missions are a blast to beat through...once. It's not as fun to beat them the second time, and I don't do it. This game isn't nearly as good or as fun as the original game. I remember how I would spend hours and hours playing over the same missions, each one was a gem. I just wish I could say the same about this game.

It's your call. Do you buy it or not? If you're an FPS fan, buy it! If you're a fan on AvP, buy it. If you don't like the movies or if you don't like FPS games, then don't buy it. I'm a fan of both and this game's getting really boring, fast. And multiplayer didn't save it, so....crap.
