Star Wars: Rogue Leader (Rogue Squadron II)
This game is unbelievable. There hasn't been a day that I haven't played this one since I first bought it over a week ago. LucasArts has finally made a worthwhile Star Wars game, and did a fine job of making it sparkle with presentation. In fact, the presentation is the best part of the game. Everything from the finely detailed graphics (some of the best graphics I've seen...ever!) to the slick and brilliant game menus, and of course--the beeps from R2-D2...this game knocks almost every other game out of the water in presentation.  If you could care less about presentation, the game also boasts music from the Star Wars movies. This is truly a remarkable game.

If you're a fan of the movies, you're in for a treat. Seriously. You will LOVE Star Wars Rogue Leader. It's just so good you want to play it again and again. Most of the levels in the game come from the movies...everything from the Death Star escape to the Hoth battle (as seen in The Empire Strikes Back)...it's all there, complete with classic Star Wars music. You can unlock an awesome level where you get to play as Darth Vader and fly a TIE-fighter. Amazing stuff, I say.

Those graphics...well, let's just say that screenshots don't do justice. Gamepro put it best: It's "museum material"...I can't agree more. It's strange that it's capable of looking just like the movies, if not better. It runs at 60 fps in most levels, but it runs in 30 in others, which is no problem because you won't care. These environments are very, very detailed. You can see grains of sand in the desert of Tatooine. You got to love the amount of activity that goes on in space...hundreds of fighters and their gunfire can be on screen at once without slowdown. LucasArts has really outdone themselves in this category.

The controls aren't that hard to learn, I just wish that there was a lock-on for missiles. But it's not that big of a deal, but it did slightly bring down the score. The Gamecube was the best controller to use for this type of game...maybe that's why they picked the Gamecube. The gameplay is what makes this category shine. Blasting through hordes of TIE-fighters is really THAT fun, even when missions take 50 or more tries.

Yeah, this game is hard. I mean, really hard. Next to impossible for me. It's not that they keep killing you, it's the fact that 90% of the time you have to protect another ship, and the ship practically never has shields, which makes it really impossible. You always fail the missions in the game. You're sick of that damn music and the words "Mission Failed" on the screen. Arghhhh!

Oh well, Star Wars Rogue Leader is still one of the best reasons to own a 'Cube.
