| Parasite Eve | |||||||||||||

| Parasite Eve reminds me of Chrono Cross for a few reasons. One, they're both made by Square. Two, they're both awesome, and the most important reason: They're both overlooked Sqauresoft games. These two games may not have the production values that big name games like Final Fantasy have, but they've got enough potential to hang out with the best. There's a Final Fantasy game every year, but there will never be another Parasite Eve. Well, okay, there was another Parasite Eve, but it didn't have as much innovation as its predecessor, and has worse gameplay. If you like Final Fantasy's gameplay, then you're not going to like this game. Sure, it's time active battle system, but it has something no other RPG has: the ability to run around and dodge attacks in battle. Sure, there's still random battles aplenty, but they are less painful to do than the Final Fantasy games for the PSX. Like gripping stories? How's this one: You're a female cop who is pursuing a buxom opera singer on Christmas Eve in New York City who has the ability to make humans spontaneously combust, and can manipulate people's genes? Some may cringe at the sound of the plot, but really, it has quite a lot to offer. This game itself has anything you could ever want, from beautiful pre-rendered graphics, state of the art gameplay, some haunting musical composition, and a disgustingly beautiful CG of a rat mutating! The plot twists and turns like any Square RPG, and I love it. There was some mature interaction between characters (although they don't have voices) and it made me feel like I was watching something real. There's lots of little secrets in rooms, so walk around pressing X on just about anything you see will reveal some surprises such as hidden weapons and medicine. PE has to be one of the most overlooked, unappreciated games of all time. I know why. It's because of Final Fantasy. Look, those games are great, but PE is unique too. It may have an odd feel over other games, but it's got the quality typical of Square. This is a rare gem in gaming, a spellbinding adventure that's almost impossible to find in stores; so I would check the internet for this innovative game. |
