| This sounds unreal This game has almost equally amazing audio. The environment sounds range from crickets to birds and other jungle sounds. They couldn't be better, and add a lot to the game's already beautiful environment. Unfortunately, the voice acting needs to go. It is the cheesiest ever. The soldiers have truly horrible dialogue, my favorites include "Hey you, with the shirt!" and "How do you like those apples?". These soldiers may have horrible comments, but on the opposite end it is fun to hear what they are saying while you are hidden. You can equip your binoculars and listen in on conversations from soldiers who can be a half mile away. They talk about all sorts of fun stuff, and even though the voice acting is not realistic, it adds a nice touch to the game. Then there's your character, an unlikeable ex-Marine who does nothing but bitch and have comments about every single thing someone says to him. It gets old, fast. I wish I could just mute him. But seriously, everything else sounds fantastic. The guns sound very realistic, and the explosions will rock your speakers. This is a great time to upgrade your sound card. This game won't die I can see myself coming back to multiplayer in the next few months. Crytek did a good job of creating a simple yet compelling multiplayer experience with three game modes to keep you coming back for more. The maps are nice and big, just the way I like them. And of course there are vehicles, so it just gets that much better. Of course, the real thing that will keep this game alive is its Sandbox editor. It's been advertised as the easiest level editor ever implemented into a game, and I couldn't agree more. This editor makes it possible to create beautiful islands and place enemies on it wherever you want...and it's not as difficult as you might expect. It will take some time to get used to, and it will require some reading. But once you can get into it, you could be making the next great mod. The developers wanted people to make mods, and now they are giving them this chance. With an easy editor, mod possibilties are endless. There are already people out there designing some very impressive mods, and once these are released, you'll want to keep playing the game. What have we learned? I understand that some of this review was a rant, but that cannot be helped. As much as I loved Far Cry, it is not a perfect game and therefore it does not get a perfect score from this website. I enjoyed this game immensely but I was occasionally frustrated to a point where I no longer wanted to play late in the game. It's a shame that the developers couldn't find a way to balance the AI later in the game, but as it stands, Far Cry will just have to be remembered as a hell of a difficult shooter. As you may know, I am the FPS god. Far Cry gave me a challenge that I will never forget. I'm not talking about a Ninja Gaiden kind of challenge, which is actually feasible with skills, I am talking about something that is completely and utterly unfair. Still, with patience (but probably cheat codes) I'm sure you will reach the end of this outstanding game, and you will appreciate its beauty and its creativity. The level designs are mostly perfect, and the action never ceases. Far Cry is a great first person shooter that I don't have a problem recommending. |
