| Castlevania: SOTN may very well be one of the best video games ever made. It's got everything going for it. It starts out with that wonderful music composition. I'm not talking about the cool '70s funk that is Driver, or the hip hop that is SSX, I'm talking about the terrific, flowing orchestra that is Castlevania. And while the title of the game may sound strange, this game can prove that music can add on to a game's depth and dramatic feel. Sure, at times the dialogue can be cheesy, but it's not as bad as Resident Evil. Yes, this game is one of the reasons to own a Playstation. The graphics are sensational! I love the 8-bit look, and the characters are all designed great! Plus, this game is highly addictive. Don't play too late at night or you'll be up well past your bedtime. The terrific controls, I must say, are the easiest to learn in any video game. This is great considering that the combat can get tricky. And the gameplay is mindblowing. Hearts give you "ammo" for your weapons, and they are found by hitting a candle with a sword. The character customization is awesome! It is still some of the best in any video game! The amount of weapons, spells, and secret moves, along with a food like pizza and hot dogs to attract an enemy, is vast and terrific! I highly recommend this game to, well, EVERYONE! The gameplay rocks. It's Super Metroid meets old school Castlevania. It's a combination of exploration and item fetching. There's simply not much like it. The game is divided into several areas, each more amazing than the last, featuring memorable enemies and boss fights that will keep you on your heels. Symphony of the Night is a classic in every sense of the word. No game developer has put so much love into one game. This game is littered with secret items, hidden rooms, and other goodies that you might not even find until several playthroughs. I've been playing this game for years and I'm just now discovering more of its secrets. There's so many reasons to come back and play this game, whether you're playing as the alternate character Richter or you're simply coming back to drool over its music, Castlevania is simply a game that everyone should enjoy, maybe even several times. It's a rare game to find, but if you can get your hands on this classic, it's worth every penny. Best 2D game ever. I said it. |
