"Ambition"
By Erick Piller

here billows an august bark,
   by aureate streamers embraced,
   strung by creaking cordage,
   carried by spreadwhite tumid sails
and masts cutting through the skies.
look: she welters, her undulating grandeur,
   amidst the anxious mariscent,
   fully stocked and kept magnificent,
     amidst the foam and spray of waves;
vicious, they fetter careful ship to port,
   holding eager sailors slaves,
   forlorn and never to embark,
from the storm to keep them safe.

& so it has come, still to this day,
that this ship, star-crossed with destiny,
      by aureate streamers embraced,
      by creaking cordage strung, by
      spreadwhite tumid sails carried,

and with masts which cut through the skies . . .

o, what an undulating grandeur it is,
to have never left for sea.
